Dental crowns (or caps as they are often referred to) are aesthetic and durable restorations placed over a tooth when standard fillings are insufficient to restore (and protect) the form and function of your tooth. Porcelain crowns can be an ideal, natural-looking solution to support damaged or replace missing teeth (implant crowns). Our dentists have advanced clinical training which allows them to create beautiful aesthetic and functional results. Crowns can be made entirely of tooth-coloured materials, precious metals, or a combination of these to provide optimal aesthetics and function.

Here is how they work

The tooth is prepared and an impression is taken.

A temporary crown is fitted to protect the tooth while the permanent crown is being fabricated.

A crown is made in the dental laboratory to fit the tooth precisely and match the neighbouring teeth as closely as possible.

The temporary crown is removed and the permanent crown is fitted securely to the tooth.

A crown could be a good solution if you have discoloured fillings or worn teeth and would like to improve their appearance. Crowns can be used to give you a more appealing smile.
Additionally, if you have had root canal treatment you will often need a crown to protect or cap the tooth, allowing you to eat and bite down on it as if it was a normal tooth. Crowns are also used to anchor a bridge or a denture firmly in place in the mouth.
